Ultimate Guide to KMR Frames and Grip Compatibility

FUNDAMENTAL RULE: The KMR nomenclature divides pistols into three main frame designs (S-02, W-02, L-02), plus a special variant (LP). None of these series are interchangeable, even if they share the same width, due to millimeter variations in the grip area length.

1. S-02 Frame Series

Reference Model: KMR S-02 in .22 LR
Frame Specifications: Steel slide and aluminum frame. Frame width: 26 mm.
Correct Grips: Exclusively the KMR S-02 version (marked with the letter S on the inside). They are not compatible with W-02 and L-02 frame sizes.

2. W-02 Frame Series

Reference Models: KMR Vapor, KMR Cuda, KMR Umbra
Frame Specifications: Steel frame. Frame width: 27 mm.
Correct Grips: Exclusively the KMR W-02 version (marked with the letter W on the inside).
Crucial Detail: Even though the frame is 27 mm wide like the L-02 series, the W-02 frame is approximately 1 mm shorter than the L-02 frame in the grip area (when viewed in the direction of fire). For this reason, they are not compatible with S-02 and L-02 sizes.

3. L-02 Frame Series

Reference Models: KMR Spectra, KMR Orca, KMR Umbra
Frame Specifications: Frame width: 27 mm. The Spectra and Orca models feature a steel frame, while the L-02 Umbra model features an aluminum frame.
Correct Grips: Standard KMR L-02 version (marked with the letter L on the inside). They are not compatible with S-02 and W-02 sizes.

4. Special Case: KMR L-02 LP Grips

Reference Models: KMR Orca, KMR Emiq
Model Specifications: Comes factory-equipped with a magazine funnel (magwell) and high-capacity magazines.
Correct Grips: Requires the special KMR LP version (marked as LP on the inside).
Why are they different? This model requires a specific grip frame model that is narrower inside and also shorter overall to accommodate the magwell. They are not compatible with standard L-02, S-02, and W-02 sizes.

💡 Expert Tip: All original KMR grips are marked on the inside with their corresponding letter (L, W, S, LP). Before buying aftermarket parts (such as Toni System grips), removing your current grips and checking the inner engraving is the safest way to avoid mistakes.

Choosing the “Length” (Standard vs Short)

Once you have identified your frame letter (L or W), you must pay attention to whether a magazine funnel / magwell is installed:

LONG Grips (Standard): These cover the full length of the grip frame. Choose these if your KMR DOES NOT have a magwell installed.
SHORT Grips: These are shorter at the bottom. They are mandatory if a magwell is present on your pistol; otherwise, the magwell cannot be mounted onto the frame.
